How to Update Managers in Bulk

If you've had shifts within your organization like employees promoted to managerial positions or managers leaving the company, you will need to assign the direct reports to new managers. Rather than adjusting the manager for employees one-by-one, you can use the bulk edit feature to assign a manager to multiple employees at once!

To start, navigate to the Employees tab to the left of your screen. You can then choose the individuals who need to be assigned a different manager by selecting the checkboxes next to their names. If you're needing to change the manager for all direct reports who currently report to a certain manager, you can select the Manager column to sort by manager.

Once you've selected the employees who need to be updated, click the Bulk Edit button located in the top-right corner.

From the Bulk Edit screen, you'll have the ability to select into the Review Details section and select a new manager to assign the employees to. After selecting the manager from the dropdown, you can click the save button.

This will populate a box with three options for you to choose from.

  • Leave: If you select this option, it will leave the current review with the original review. Once that review is completed and archived, it will then update the next review cycle to the new manager.
  • Reassign: This option will go ahead and immediately reassign the reviews to the new manager.
  • Cancel: Selecting the cancel option means that the current review will be cancelled entirely so that a new review populates and is assigned to the new manager. Keep in mind that any goals or notes added into the review will carry over after cancellation. However, if the review was in active scoring when the cancellation takes place, any review details that were completed will be cancelled out entirely.

In some cases, you may need to update the manager assigned to the current review only, but don't want the manager to be updated in the review set. A common use case for this is if a manager is on leave and another manager needs to temporarily step in for a review cycle.

For this kind of update, you can navigate to the Reviews tab and select into the Scoring tab. Once you select the employees you'd like to update, click Bulk Edit in the top-right corner. Here, you will select into the Review Details section and choose the manager from the dropdown.

Once you save this change, it will take care of only updating the manager for the current review. Once the review archives, the next review that populates will return back to the original manager.
