Manager Quick Start Guide

Getting started as a manager?  We've got a quick guide to the ins and outs of Perform!  Keep this guide handy when you're getting started.

Taking a Note on an Employee

From your navigation bar, select Notes.

Select '+ New Notes' to begin adding a note.

Enter your note and select a privacy setting to determine if the note is visible to the employee.  You can also associate the note with a specific element from the review document.  The note will be categorized under General Notes if no association is selected.  Make sure to select Create Note once complete to save!

You can also add Notes directly to your direct report's review by selecting Reviews > Goals and Notes, then selecting the employee you want to leave a note on.

Next, leave Notes on Goals, Competencies, or at the bottom of the review under General Notes.

Add a Goal to an Employee’s Review

From your To Do list, select My Teamlocate the employee you'd like to add a goal for.  Select the Set Goals on (employee's name) Appraisal Set review to add Goals.

Note: If the employee's review is in scoring, this button will read Score Review.  You will need to select the Goals and Notes tab in the employee's review hub timeline.

Click Add a goal to add the new goal for the employee!

You can add an existing goal or create a new goal! To create a new goal, enter the name of the goal, add a description, and select a rating scale.

Be sure to save the goal when you are done!

Confirm the location of the goal, and then click Insert Goal.

Your goal will now appear as a line item to be scored during the employee's evaluation!

Edit or Remove a Goal

To remove a goal, hover over it, and a trash can and pencil icon will appear.  The trash can will delete the goal - the Pencil will allow you to edit and make changes.

Editing Your Goal

After clicking the pencil icon, the content of the goal can be edited.  You can also adjust the weight of the goal here.  Adjusting the weight of the goal will affect the weights of the other goals on the review.

Note: Only the creator of the goal can edit that goal.  If the employee added a goal, they would need to edit it, if necessary.

Add Measurements to a Review

From your To Do List > My Teamlocate the employee you'd like to add a measurement for.  Select the Set Goals on (employee's name) Appraisal Set review to add Goals.

Note: If the employee's review is in scoring, this button will read Score Review.  You will need to select the Goals and Notes tab in the employee's review hub timeline.

Measurements can be added to a competency or a goal.  Locate the element you'd like to add your measurement to; then click on Add Measurement.

Enter the measurement details in the required fields. Once completed, click on Save.  As the measurement is being completed, you or the employee can edit and adjust the "Percent Complete" as needed.

Pro Tip: Keep yourself accountable with email reminders!  Add an email reminder to your measurement by clicking Add Email Reminder.  You can then choose when you would like the email reminder to be sent and to

Requesting 360-Rater Feedback

Note: 360-Rater Feedback is an optional step in the review cycle. Your company may decide not to enable 360-Rater Feedback. If enabled, you can choose which elements are scorable by 360-raters and decide if feedback will be anonymous to managers & admins.  360-Rater Feedback does not affect the overall review score.

Your employee’s review must be in the Scoring phase to request 360-Rater Feedback.

From your To Do list on your Dashboard, select the My Team tab. From there, find the employee whose review you need to request 360-Rater Feedback for.

If you are already in the Employee’s Review Hub, click on the 360-Rater Feedback tab in the timeline.

Add the requested information on who you'd like to add or select as a 360-Rater for this employee.  You can also choose elements to include for the 360-Raters to score and choose to make the feedback anonymous.  Remember to save when you are done!

Note: 360-Rater Feedback cannot be viewed by the employee unless a PDF copy with this information populated is presented to them. Checking the Anonymous Feedback box makes the feedback anonymous to the managers and administrators.

Managing 360-Rater Feedback

You can manage the requested feedback by selecting the 360-Rater Feedback from the timeline in the Review Hub.  Status indicators will show the progress of the 360-Raters.  You can send a reminder to the 360-Rater or delete the request here.

Score an Employee's Review

From your To Do > My Team listlocate the employee.  Select the Score (employee's name) Appraisal Set review.

You'll be sent to the Manager Review tab within their timeline.

You can see the progress here, including the employee's self-review (if applicable).  You also can override the self-review, which will remove the request for the employee to complete it.

Use the Rating Scale to choose a score for each competency.  You will also see how the employee has rated themselves if they have completed their self-review and any comments.

Add comments, if desired.  Be sure to save comments by clicking Add This Comment.  Comments are optional and can include file attachments.

Pro TIp:  Use the Coaching Tips to find comments to use for the corresponding competency.  Click the + to copy them into the comments box.

When you've completed the review, scroll to the top of the window, and it will reflect "Scoring Complete" in green across the top and the score in the upper right-hand corner.

Send for Approval

Click on the Approval tab at the top of their review.

If applicable, choose or view who the review will be routed - this step can vary depending on your organization's set process.

You can leave a note for any approvers in the Approver Guidance box - all approvers will receive this message as an email notification.

Click Send for Approval once complete.

Note: All approvers will see all submitted information, including employee, manager, and 360-rater feedback. Approvers can approve & reject reviews, as well as leave comments.

If you've chosen the wrong route for approval, use the Cancel Approval option.

Archive a Review

Once the review has been completed, you can Archive it (this depends on if your company has set reviews to auto-archive upon approval completion).  From your list of Direct Reports, locate the employee.  From the Action column, click on Review & ArchiveYou can only complete this step once a review have completed all required steps.

This will take you to the Archive tab in the Review Hub. Click Archive Review to finalize the archival!

Depending on your organization's settings, measurements, and goals may carry over to the employee's following review.  If not, you can manually edit this on the following review.
