Using My Goals (Employee Guide)

My Goals is where you see and manage your own goals. This article walks through what you'll see, how to search and filter, and how to create a goal.

What you'll see

When you open My Goals, you'll see "My Goals" at the top with a count beside it (e.g. "My Goals 7"), and a Create a goal button.

Instead of a table, each goal shows as its own card. There's no Assignee or Manager column here since every goal is yours, that information would just repeat itself.

Each card shows:

  • The goal name across the top
  • A row of details: subgoal count (e.g. "3 subgoals"), due date (e.g. "Due 4/12/25"), review cycle (e.g. "Q2 Reviews"), and  if the goal has tags a tag icon with a count

  • A status control on the right (On track, At risk, etc.)

  • A ⋮ actions menu in the top-right corner

  • A chevron next to the title if the goal has subgoals — click it to expand

Searching and grouping your goals

At the top of the list is a search box (search by goal title, review cycle, etc.), a Group by control, and a filter (funnel) icon.

Group by organizes your cards into labeled sections:

  • Review cycle — grouped under each review (e.g. "Q2 Review," "Q3 Review"), with a count and the review's current state (like "Scoring" or "Goal-setting")
  • Goal status — grouped by status (e.g. "On track," "At risk"), each with a count
  • Open/closed goals — split into just two sections, each with a count

If you don't choose a grouping, your cards just appear as one continuous list.

💡 Tip: If your goals suddenly look split into sections with headers, that's just Group by in use - not a change to your goals. Set it back to no grouping to return to a single list.

Filtering: Click the funnel icon to open a Filters popover with:

  • Status — select one or more
  • Reviews — select one or more review cycles
  • Due Date — a start and end date range

Click Reset to clear your choices, or Apply to apply them. Once filters are active, a count badge appears on the funnel icon (e.g. "5").

Understanding status

Status tells you where a goal stands. A goal that hasn't been set yet shows "Set status."

Open statuses: On track, At risk (shown in red), On hold (shown in amber) Closed statuses: Complete (shown in green with a checkmark), Incomplete, Canceled

To set or change status, open the status control on your goal card and pick one — only one applies at a time. To clear a status, select the one that's already applied; this returns it to "Set status" without changing the progress percentage.

💡 Tip: A goal can show progress and still have no status set — they're tracked separately.

Progress and metrics

Each goal shows a progress bar and percentage. Hovering over it shows the current value and target value (e.g. "Current $2,250 / Target $78,000").

Some goals are tracked as simple Complete / Incomplete rather than a number — these don't show a percentage. Hovering explains that progress isn't measured that way for this type.

💡 Tip: If your goal doesn't show a percentage, it's likely set up as Complete/Incomplete rather than measurable.

Subgoals

If a goal has subgoals, you'll see a chevron next to its title. Click it to expand the card and reveal a "Subgoals (N)" section, listing each subgoal's name, due date, status, and its own progress bar with percentage. Click the chevron again to collapse. Cards showing "0 subgoals" have no expander.

A subgoal's due date shows in red if it's overdue.

When your list is empty or nothing matches

You may see one of three different messages, depending on the situation:

  • "Start setting goals!" - you have reviews but haven't set any goals yet. A Create a goal button lets you get started. This is the normal starting point if you're new to goals.
  • "No goals — yet!" -  you don't have an open review yet, so there's nowhere to add goals. Once a manager or admin assigns you a review, you'll be able to start setting goals. There's no Create button here, because goals can't be created until a review exists — check the Learn more link for details.
  • "We didn't find any goals" — you do have goals, but your current search or filters don't match any of them. Try removing filters or checking your search for typos or use the Reset filters button.

💡 Tip: If you can't create a goal because there's no Review to choose from, you're not stuck — it just means a manager or admin needs to assign you a review first.

Creating a goal

Click Create a goal (top-right) to open the Create a goal drawer.

Fields:

  • Goal title* - required
  • Description - optional, with basic rich-text formatting (bold, italic, links, lists, and more)
  • Tags - optional, multi-select; ask your manager or admin if you don't see a tag you're looking for, since these are managed centrally
  • Rating scale* - required; sets how the goal will be scored
  • Review* - required; choose which review cycle this goal belongs to (this field is unique to your view - a manager or admin creating a goal doesn't see it)
  • Cancel / Save - Save stays disabled until all required fields are filled in

Once you choose a rating scale, the drawer expands to show each rating level with an editable description. You can tweak a level's wording for this goal specifically - it won't change the shared scale or any other goal using it.

After saving, you'll see a green "Success - A new goal has been created!" message. If something goes wrong, you'll see a red error message instead, and you can try again.

💡 Tip: If Save stays greyed out, check that Goal title, Rating scale, and Review are all filled in — Review is the field unique to your drawer, and it's the one people most often miss. If you don't see any reviews to choose from, that ties back to the "No goals — yet!" message above: a manager or admin needs to assign you a review first.
