Copying a Goal (Manager)
If you need a new goal that's similar to one that already exists, you can copy it instead of building it from scratch. This works the same way for Managers and Admins.
How to copy a goal
- Find the goal you want to copy - this works whether the goal is assigned or unassigned.
- Open its ⋮ actions menu and choose Make a copy.

How to copy a goal
- Find the goal you want to copy — this works whether the goal is assigned or unassigned.
- Open its ⋮ actions menu and choose Make a copy.
- The familiar Create a goal drawer opens, pre-filled from the original:
- Goal title carries over with a "Copy: " prefix (e.g. "Copy: Improve team communication across projects") so it's easy to tell apart from the original — you can edit this before saving.
- Description, Tags, Rating scale, and the per-level rating descriptions all carry over too.
- Edit anything that should differ on the new goal, then Save (or Cancel to discard the copy).
There's no Review field on this drawer — same as creating any goal as a Manager or Admin.

What to know about the copy
- It's independent, not linked. The copy is a brand-new goal — editing it later doesn't affect the original, and vice versa.
- It starts out unassigned - even if the original wasn't. This is true no matter who the original was assigned to. After saving, you'll see: "Success — A new goal has been created! Next, assign the goal to employees." That's your cue that the copy still needs to be assigned to reach anyone.
- If something goes wrong, you'll see: "Error — Something went wrong while copying this goal. Try again in a moment," and no copy is made.
💡 Support tip: The most common follow-up question is "I copied a goal but no one sees it" — that's expected. The fix is to assign the copy (see the Bulk Assigning Goals article), not to re-copy it.
Restricted Admins
If you're a Restricted Admin, Make a copy is only available on goals that belong to your own team. On goals outside your team, the row shows a "View only" tag and the actions menu greys out everything except View details — copying included.
